History
Watervliet is a safe and friendly community that provides a good quality of life for families. The downtown area has an old fashioned Main Street with antique stores and gift shops that attract tourists.
The Paw Paw Lakes have been a long time tourist destination along with the beautiful farmland, rolling hills, quaint shops and wineries. There are many visitors that look forward each year to the lazy days of summer spent on Paw Paw Lake boating, swimming and water skiing. There are plenty of other activities to take part in right downtown with the yearly Independence Weekend Celebration that includes Parades, cook offs, carnival, fireworks and a Duck Race in Flaherty Park. Local residents will be busy all summer long using beautiful Hay's Park facilities. There are the baseball fields, a Skate Park for skate boarders, inline skaters and for people of all levels to enjoy. Many residents have already enjoyed the newest addition, the Canoe Launch / Fishing pier. If you enjoy the winter months then we have several area snowmobile trails, ice fishing is a popular sport during the coldest of the winter months and there is always sledding at Hay's Park for kids of all ages.
There is something for everyone, which makes the Watervliet Area a wonderful place to live, work and play. Come visit and see for yourself why we really are a tourist destination for all seasons in our beautiful corner of Michigan's Great Southwest!
